      The moment we hear name of  the place Kharagpur, first and foremost thing that come in our mind is about IIT Kharagpur and railway station. It's quite obvious as  Kharagpur has been known as first Indian Institute of technology since May 1950. Also it has one of the largest railway workshops in India, and the third longest railway platform in the world (1072.5 m). It's an Industrial city located in Paschim Medinipur district of West Bengal.              Kharagpur junction                    IIT KHARAGPUR          Name of this place as Kharagpur was given by its 12th king Mallabhum Dynasty, kharga malla. It's said that initially it was part of Hijli kingdom and ruled by oriya rulers under Gajapati kings of Odisha.       In 16th century this place was said to be a small village surrounded by a dense forest.     Chatakpur an eco friendly village.


     This village is situated on the hilltops of sonada which is 7km away on the way to Darjeeling.
        Most interestingly only 18 families live here. This village has barely got 25 homes with 100 villagers. 
      This is a newly built tourist destination near Darjeeling. This village is located within the Senchal Wildlife Sanctuary where one may also find some eagles and small wild animals as well. 

     Prior to this village announced as an "eco tourism" place by forest associates this place was known as "timber den" as people used to smuggle out timber. In order to put a stop to this timber struggling, forest officials converted this place into an eco-friendly village also they built some wooden cottages in this forest village for their livelihood.

          This place has started getting an extra preference then Tiger hill because one can view an awesome view of sunrise and sunset of Mt. Kanchenjunga better than tiger hill from wooden watch tower which is just 10 minutes walking distance from wooden cottages. So, basically you don't have to wake up early morning and get for a drive to some other place to experience this wonderful view of dusk and dawn. 
         This place is ideal for light trek as it offers number of popular trek routes that lead to the top of the Tiger Hill, Rimbi village, Sixeen village and Labda through the wildlife sanctuary. This trek also leads to a small pond named 'Pokhri' by the localiets.
    Chatakpur is also known as  home for a numerous numbers of different kinds of birds like Blue Magpie, Himalayan Bulbul, Verditer Flycatcher, Pipit, Long tail Shrike, Warbler, Prinia, Rufous Sibia, Black Redstart, Blue Fronted Redstart, Water Redstart and many more. This jungle is the home to the leopards, Himalayan black beer, Antelopes and barking bears.
