The moment we hear name of the place Kharagpur, first and foremost thing that come in our mind is about IIT Kharagpur and railway station. It's quite obvious as Kharagpur has been known as first Indian Institute of technology since May 1950. Also it has one of the largest railway workshops in India, and the third longest railway platform in the world (1072.5 m). It's an Industrial city located in Paschim Medinipur district of West Bengal. It's said that initially it was part of Hijli kingdom and ruled by oriya rulers under Gajapati kings of Odisha. In 16th century this place was said to be a small village surrounded by a dense forest.
