      The moment we hear name of  the place Kharagpur, first and foremost thing that come in our mind is about IIT Kharagpur and railway station. It's quite obvious as  Kharagpur has been known as first Indian Institute of technology since May 1950. Also it has one of the largest railway workshops in India, and the third longest railway platform in the world (1072.5 m). Chandannagar      The moment we hear about Chandannagar first thing that comes in our mind is all about light decoratives done during puja. This place comes under hoogly district located near western bank of hoogly river. It's also called as French colony as this place was said to be first created by french people by occupying small localities in that area.               Name of this place is derived from the shape of the bank of the river Hooghly which is bent like a half-moon (in Bengali, Chand means moon and Nagar implies city), so originally it was chander nagar. Kalimpong: Assembly of the king's minister

                 Origin of the name Kalimpong still remains suspicious with lots of untold stories behind it.  Where one of thetheory claims that the word " Kalimpong means-  assembly of the king's minister ". This word is derived from kalon ("King's ministers") and pong ("stockade") which was once known as Dalingkot means isolated spot under Sikkimese rule. People from the hills also called the area Kalempung ("the black spurs").        Prior to China's invasion over Tibet and Sino Indian war Kalimpong used to be the gateway of trade between Tibet and India.        Kalimpong and Darjeeling called for a separate Gorkhaland in 1980s and later in 2010. Between 1986 and 1988 this demand grew more. Since 2007 this demand has been revived by " Gorkha Janmukti Morcha ."      Until mid 19th century the area around was rules by sikkemese and bhutanese.                                       Deolo hill            All of us are mostly aware about the hill station Kalimpong . We might have visited their multiple times. But there is one interesting fact to know about that place and i.e Kalimpong stands between two another big hills which is known as Deolo and Durphin .  Deolo hill Durphin hill       Deolo hill makes an distance of 1704 mt feet and is the highest point of Kalimpong. Durphin Dara makes an distance of 4501 ft from the sea level.                 You will find Zang Dhok Palri Monastery on top of the hill which was consecrated by the Dalai Lama in 1976 .                 Mirik has got all in itself to attract someone with it's scenaric beauty. This place is surrounded by huge alpine trees, ponds, lakes, mountains, beautifully decorated monasteries. This place is blessed with a pleasant atmosphere.     Chatakpur an eco friendly village.       This village is situated on the hilltops of sonada which is 7km away on the way to Darjeeling.         Most interestingly only 18 families live here. This village has barely got 25 homes with 100 villagers.        This is a newly built tourist destination near Darjeeling. This village is located within the Senchal Wildlife Sanctuary where one may also find some eagles and small wild animals as well.       Prior to this village announced as an "eco tourism" place by forest associates this place was known as " timber den " as people used to smuggle out timber.       My last blog content was on Lamahatta. Similarly we have got another small village situated near Darjeeling named as Bees Gaon (Dist approx 300 KMS).          Bees Gaon is another place blessed by our mother nature surrounded by huge pine trees where  one can refresh themselves with beautiful scenaric view of mountains, trees, tea garden, by filling their ears with beautiful songs sung by sparrows.
